GloPoWriMo Day 2

And now for our prompt (optional, as always). Taking a cue from our craft resource, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem that plays with voice.

“Love never lingers overlong”
He strummed a chord and wrote his song
“Stars only shine when you’re around”
Always looking for the perfect sound
“Hum this tune, hold this beat”
He thought the world was at his feet
“We’ll make it one day, you’re the song of my heart”
Years went by and we drifted apart

He moved to Memphis for the inspiration
Five months later he’s an overnight sensation
Singing the songs he wrote for me
Talking about the love that could never be
“She broke my heart,” he lied with a smile
Girls all swooned for his bad boy style
“Maybe one day…” he’d end with a shrug
Like I was the one who gave up on our love

Late night text: Babe can I call?
I miss you so much, I’m climbing the wall
“I’ve missed you too,” I answer relieved
There’s joy in m voice, my heart’s on my sleeve
“Are you still in that place? Is my stuff still there?”
“Have you got that notebook I took everywhere”
“We’ll catch up soon, I’m doing okay”
“But about that notebook, I need it right away”

I found that book and removed what I’d wrote
Sent it along with a handwritten note
‘I took out my songs, you understand’
‘I’ve had some interest from this guy and his band’
I saw him years later, a red carpet event
We kept our distance by mutual consent
“Isn’t that him? Want to go say hello?”
There was no need, “That’s no one I know”

I think she was better off without him in the end.

      1. Yeah probably but still not a happy ending… Future one tho

  1. So sad and I suppose hopeful that she can move on. The romantic in me is pouting. Lovely poem you rhymed beautifully, which in my books is a talent deserved of praise.

Tell your inner romantic to cheer up, wonder who she was at the red carpet event with. Someone who knew her well enough to know who he was, maybe the guy from the band… Thanks for the praise, poetry is hard work! But pushing myself to write is needed at times! 🙂

      1. I can imagine how hard it is. I don’t even have the brain energy to try. It’s nice to see you writing and posting your talent should be shared.
