GloPoWriMo Day 0

GloPoWriMo Day 0

Today’s prompt is one we’ve used before, but it gets great results, and who can argue with results? So today I’d like to challenge you to write a poem in the form of a love letter . . . to an object. Ideally, the poem will be a kind of riddle, where it’s not totally obvious that the addressee is your beloved childhood pogo stick, or a dish of pad thai from your favorite restaurant, until near the end. This is a great opportunity to play with some of the clichés and tropes of love poetry. But while this kind of poem can be a great way to explore humor in verse, you might also surprise yourself with just how deep and true your feelings toward an object can be. Happy writing!

Dearest Darling

It’s been so long since last we met
That Friday night, I can’t forget
From covert glances to a secret touch
Just one small sip and you’re in my blood

I couldn’t resist, just one taste more
I get lost in you and I’m on the floor
Tomorrow I’ll pay for my bad choices
But today I give in to the lure of your voices

Your soft Syrrah, your spicy Shiraz
Zesty Zinfandel that shines with pizzazz
Deep red Cab Sav my true heart’s desire
You warm my skin with internal fire

I give in and fall into your tannic embrace
Under your influence I’m a picture of grace
My cup runs over with luscious red wine
I’m forever yours, tangled in your grapevine

  1. Oh what fun that was. I love how you wrote the wine as if it were a lover, though isn’t it really a love in life? 😉

It was a fun challenge to write, no comment on my relationship with wine though hehe 😉

      1. AJ was just getting into some but doctor said no more. I like a good with dinner but not a big fan of it other wise
